The Scott Motorcycle Page

The Yorkshire Scott, first produced in 1908 gained immediate success. They set the fastest lap at the Isle of Mann in 1911 and returned to win the Senior TT in 1912 and 1913. Alfred Angas Scott made many practical improvements to two-stroke technology. At the turn of the century he had developed a water cooled 180 degree parrallel twin that would basically serve as a motorcycle pwerplant for six decades to come.
Here's a picture of my Scott, sold to me as a 1927 Flying Squirrel. So far my "best guess" is that it is a 1930 Super Squirrel, perhaps with a 1927 engine. The engine serial number is Y165 and according to Jeff Clew's book, The Scott Motorcycle, The Yowling Two-Stroke, the "Y" makes it a Super Squirrel of 596 cc's. The frame number is 2606, making it an early 1930. That would help explain the "large" front brake. Interesting features are the Lucas electric lighting and the Smith's speedo driven by the large gear seen on the front wheel. I believe the coils under the seat were added, probably when the magneto went bad.

May 20, 1998 Dave Simmonds daveme@netcomuk.co.uk, Hi, My brother has just bought a 1926 Scott and I want to print up a T-shirt with the logo on it for him. I've downloaded the logo on this page but it loses a lot of quality on expanding to T-shirt size. Does anyone have a file at higher resolution ? Thanks Dave

Apr 5, 1998 Richard devonia@devonia.com, Just to see a Scott website is an excellent start to a restoration project. We're working on a 1949 Flying Squirrel, here in Ontario, Canada. Does anyone have any sources for general parts (e.g. cables, handlebars, levers), or a dedicated owners' club?

Jan 1, 1998 Donna Bright bbright@grits.valdosta.peachnet.edu, We own a 1925 Scott with a 1936 engine. Our son will begin working on it soon and we need to know how to procure parts, and some expertise to advise him. Can you help?

Dec 13, 1996 Peter van Dongen pgvd@dbn.lia.net, Hi I have a very similar Scott dated in South Africa by SAVVA as a 1928 Super Squirrel. I have had it for about 15 years and have rallied it extensively in South Africa> It is Currently semi stripped following the discovery that the terrible vibration from the engine was caused by 40thou clearance piston to bore. This due to the bore wall thicknes being less than 1mm in places due to corrossion in the water jacket. I have had the cylinders sleeved and must port them etc etc. I notice that like my bike yours seems to suffer from front fork bend due to the brake stay, is this the case? happy Scotting regards Peter

Oct 25, 1996 Alfred Angas Scott AScott@thegreatbeyond, Hey, keep up the good work!
